Shannara at long last
« on: July 11, 2014, 05:39:45 PM »
MTV has given a direct to series 10 episode order for a Shannara series.

Yes fantasy readers, the Sword of Shannara universe is getting a TV series.

Okay, the fact that it is on MTV and skipping the first book in the series is a bit worrisome, but damn, with Terry Brooks on board as an executive producer, this might just be good.

My TiVo is set. But in case anyone forgets, it looks like MTV is running this pilot about 20 times this week too.

I'm a little worried. The advance reviews aren't great.

I've seen the first four episodes and I have to say that I'm enjoying the series.

Author Terry Brooks talks about the series HERE.

The other show I've binge watched on Blu-ray this week was The Shannara Chronicles, for me this was a B-grade romp, fun but not memorable but I do think it has the potential to develop into a good show if it's given the chance and since season 2 has been announced it looks like it's going to get that chance.

I really enjoy Manu Bennett on this show. The young male lead grew on me. I liked the Rover woman from the start. The Elf Amberly was pretty flat.  I'll be watching season 2 (and hoping they leave Amberly in that tree).

I thought a lot of the cast were pretty weak in terms of acting performances, I've liked Man Bennett since he was on Spartacus but he did seem like a slightly odd casting choice to me at first for his role as a druid.

I read the first few books just after I finished high school which was a while ago now so I don't remember if Amberly stays in the tree or not but either way her performance couldn't get more wooden ;)

Funny thing though, I had no memory of the stories being set on a post apocalyptic earth so that was a bit of a surprise but a lot of time has passed since I read them.

I'm interested enough to see what they do with season 2.
