Tuner Minute 71 - Expiration Dates

Wendy called in with some thoughts... http://tuningintoscifitv.com/2010/02/27/tuner-minute-71-expiration-dates/

(Yes, the title is similar to a previous TM, but it's different!  It has an "s" at the end.  Honest.  ;) )

Yes - some shows have stayed around for far to long and it would've been better for them to finish on a high note, X-Files is a good example of that, so is classic Doctor Who ( the Sylvester McCoy era is just horrible ) and I think the BSG remake should've ended when they found Earth ( the first one ).

Sure it's possible to keep a show going once it's resolved all it's main storylines but it seems that is rarely satisfying, in most cases you seem to get several good season of a show and then a couple of poorer quality seasons that feel like they've been tacked on to the end and a lot of fans wishing they'd never been made.
It can't rain all the time...

You have no idea how happy you just made me with that statement. I thought the same thing. "Welcome to Earth, a radioactive lump of dirt! Congrats!" THE END
I'm not bad. I've just been digitally remastered that way.

I wont necessarily agree on Doctor Who. While I DO agree that the last season were complete trash, I think it could have been saved and refreshed by some better attention to the writing. I think the BBC got bored with it more than anything.

Stargate:SG1 is my prime example series. Once the main goal of the series was complete, the defeat of the G'aold, that is where it should have ended. Essentially starting over with a new enemy and with a story arc that mimicked the first one was a bad choice. I think that rule is a good one to be followed. Start your story, have an ending in mind when you do and build to that ending and then finish it. Better to leave with fans begging for more than to leave with fans thinking your smell like 3 day old fish.
