  1. I would like to nominate the Robotech series (and the original
Japanese series which were mashed together to create it.)

Yes, there were Japanese anime series slowly streaming into North American markets before Robotech (Starblazers and Battle of the Planets to name but two), but Robotech is commonly held as the entry vehicle into Anime for children of the 80’s.

Not without controversy, Robotech was the amalgamation of 3 separate and unrelated Anime series, with the only commonality of them being giant transformable mecha. (mmm giant transformable mecha). Brought (or mashed as some would say) together by Carl Macek, Robotech wove the story across 3 generations of people in a 40-50 year span of (then) future history. The 3 original Anime series are: The Super Dimension Fortress Macross (1982), Super Dimension Cavalry Southern Cross (1984) and Genesis Climber MOSPEADA (1983) closing out as the third generation.

And I for one loved every minute of it. A tip of the hat goes out to Harmony Gold for releasing Robotech onto 3 of the major streaming services this fall: Netflix, Amazon, and Crackle.

Please vote for Robotech for this year’s hall of fame (well, except for Kevin 😉
